Each Individual who attends one of our Success Programs is encouraged to take an active role in setting his or her goals and objectives for their future. Goals and objectives are intended to assist Unyeway participants in becoming increasingly independent. Unyeway’s Success programs include a full spectrum of program options available within licensed adult day programs. This wide range of choices allows participants to transfer between various programs as their needs and skills change, while still remaining among friends and people who already know their preferences, likes and dislikes, and preferred means of communicating.
SUCCESS PROGRAM OPTIONS OFFERED AT A 1:3 STAFF TO CONSUMER RATIO
Unyeway’s Success program options include three programs that are provided at a 1:3 staff to consumer ratio, including the Behavior Management Program, Adult Development Center, and Community Based Program. All programs and components operate separately, however there is a lot of opportunity to participate in shared activities. The Adult Development Center is known not only for providing services to people who benefit from a 1:3 staff to consumer ratio, but also for it’s unique specialty components including our nursing component and psychosocial component. The nursing component has Licensed Vocational Nurses present within the program. The psychosocial program has the extra benefit of priority access to a Family Life Educator. Our Behavior Management Program has the extra-benefit of having priority access to both the Family Life Educator as well as our Consulting Psychologist.
While the 1:3 staff to consumer ratio is the same in our Adult Development Center, Behavior Management Program, and Community Based Program the focus of each is different. The adult Development Center focuses on increasing independence in self-care skills, functional living skills, self-direction skills, communication skills, and community integration skills. The Behavior Management Program focuses on replacing inappropriate behaviors with functionally equivalent appropriate behaviors and creating an environment where individuals are successful. Additionally, the Behavior Management Program focuses on teaching self-advocacy, rights and responsibilities, as well as interpersonal and communication skills. The Community Based Program focuses on accessing the community, developing natural supports in the community, learning community safety skills, and exploring local opportunities and resources in the community. Participants in the Community Based Program must be able to access the community at least 51% of the time they are at program (an average of 3+ hours each day).
SUCCESS PROGRAM OPTIONS OFFERED AT A 1:4 STAFF TO CONSUMER RATIO
Unyeway, Inc. also offers Adult Development Center Program and Community Based Program options at a 1:4 staff to consumer ratio. Our Adult Development Center 1:4 program is similar to the Adult Development Center 1:3 program, except that the nursing and psychosocial specialty programs are not offered. Instead a Retirement and Social – Community and Leisure (RASCALS) component, an outdoor work area we call class “Sunshine” (at the Lakeside Site only), as well as a traditional center based component are offered. The Community Based Program 1:4 is different from the Community Based Program 1:3, in that the primary focus of the 1:4 program is on participation in paid work activities and volunteerism. Consumers in the Community Based 1:4 program also focus on money management, appropriate work behavior, and interpersonal skills. Participants in the Community Based Program must be able to access the community at least 51% of the time they are at program (an average of 3 hours each day).
SUCCESS PROGRAM OPTIONS OFFERED AT A 1:6–1:8 STAFF TO CONSUMER RATIO
Unyeway, Inc. Success Programs also provide Activities Center Programs. The Activities Center Programs provide services at a 1:6 or 1:8 ratio. The primary focus of these programs is to develop appropriate interpersonal skills, cooperation and team work skills, and develop the skills needed to move on to paid work opportunities. Consumers in the 1:6 or 1:8 program must be mostly independent in their self-care and functional living skills, as well as require no more than routine supervision.
ENHANCED SERVICES AND SPECIALTY SUPPORT
